Infra S.A. is set to conduct a series of feasibility studies for the expansion of the Port of Suape. The port authority of Pernambuco has contracted the federal state-owned company to develop the necessary assessments and analytical reports in preparation for the leasing of the terminals located at the harbor, which is the country’s 6th busiest public port. On this occasion, the company announced the availability of three lots designated for the construction of new docks and the installation of liquid bulk terminals.
The signing of the agreement took place at Suape’s booth at the 28th edition of Intermodal South America, held at the São Paulo Expo, which began on Tuesday (5) and is slated to end on Thursday (7). The ceremony was attended by Suape’s CEO, Marcio Guiot; the Director of Port Development and Management, Rinaldo Lira; Infrastructure S.A.’s CEO, Jorge Bastos; and the Director of Planning at the federal state-owned company, Cristiano Giustina.
The partnership between the Suape Industrial Port Complex and Infra S.A. will last for four years and includes pre-feasibility studies for other terminals. Through those studies, the most suitable investment modality for each project will be determined. Of the three lots currently available for leasing, the one integrating Piers 6 and 7 and the inland area will be part of Infra S.A.’s assigned work.
These studies refer to a greenfield area with the availability of up to two docks with a length of 350 meters, totaling 30.7 thousand square meters. The inland portion of this lot covers 206 thousand square meters. According to Marcio Guiot, it is a vast and strategic land plot that could have multiple uses. “The feasibility of installing the new piers will be ensured with the dredging works of the external (about to be completed) and internal (ongoing project) channels. When the service is completed, the external lot will have up to 20 meters in depth and the internal, 16.2 meters,” he said.
Jorge Bastos, CEO of Infra S.A., emphasizes that the company has the necessary expertise to attract the investments that will modernize the Port of Suape. “This is an important move for Pernambuco. The quality of Infra S.A.’s studies is recognized by the market and will result in more modern and sustainable terminals,” he points out. The other two lots made available by Suape total 132.1 thousand square meters and are intended for liquid bulk terminals.
“Business groups interested in leasing the lots have until April 30 of this year to submit to the port authority administration a statement of interest to subsidize the pre-feasibility study of the projects. Detailed information regarding the areas is available on Suape’s website,” adds the Director of Port Development and Management.
