On June 7th, the Suape Port Industrial Complex launched the annual “Friend of the Ocean” seal with representatives of the dock’s tenant terminals.
“The digital seal, valid for one year, will be granted to terminals committed to caring for the marine and estuarine ecosystem and to the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, approved by the United Nations (UN) in 2015. It’s an important action to celebrate Environment Week and reinforce our commitment to balance economic growth and nature preservation, encouraging good environmental practices among our partners”, points out the president of Porto de Suape, Roberto Gusmão.
In total, 22 criteria will be evaluated that contemplate environmental management, including water and energy consumption and practices to combat waste at sea. Throughout this month, the terminals will be formally invited by the port administration to apply for certification of the sustainability of their operations. The result of the 2021 seal concession will be announced in November and the terminals will have until August to send the documentation that meets these criteria to the Suape administration, located in the municipality of Ipojuca, outside of Recife.
“2021 has an important appeal for the oceans, as it is the year in which the Decade of the Oceans begins. Suape could not fail to draw attention to the issue, since, as a port that encompasses the public and private sector, it prioritizes preservation, contributing to a healthy, resilient, safe, sustainable, and productive aquatic environment”, declares the Director of Environment and Sustainability at the state-owned port company, Carlos Cavalcanti.
