A total of eight wind turbine blades, equivalent to 24 windmill blades, and other components destined for assembly and operation of clean energy generation gear, are being unloaded at Berth 4 of the Port of Suape. Originating from China, the blades measure 84 meters in length, equivalent to a 28-story building, making it the largest cargo of its kind ever unloaded at the port in Pernambuco.

This marks the first time that the entire wind turbine assembly has arrived at the public port of Pernambuco in a single shipment. Similar operations are scheduled to take place repeatedly until July 2025, totaling 108 turbines in 11 shipments to Suape. The Chinese holding company Goldwind, the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturer, is also responsible for this maritime journey from Asia to Suape.

Weighing nearly 7,000 tons, the cargo was dispatched from the port of Lianyungang, located in the province of Jiangsu. The journey to Suape lasted 40 days and was carried out by the ship Tian Lu, under the flag of Singapore, a city-state in Southeast Asia. According to Rinaldo Lira, Director of Port Development and Management at Suape, the operation began on Sunday (29) and is expected to be extended for an additional 4 to 6 days.

“We are talking about a complex task that requires the use of trains with three to 16 axles and cranes with a combined capacity of 400 tons,” explained Lira. Initially, the materials will remain in the yard of the Suape Container Terminal (Tecon), awaiting clearance from the relevant authorities.

After due clearance, the cargo, which includes wind turbine blades, rotors, towers, gearboxes, generators, and other equipment, will be transported by land to Serra da Palmeira, in Paraíba, where a wind farm is being installed across the cities Picuí, Baraúna, São Vicente do Seridó, Nova Palmeira, and Pedra Lavrada. CTG Brasil, one of the largest clean energy generators in the country, is responsible for the implementation and operation of the wind complex.
