On March 24, Suzano finished the construction work of mooring berth 99, while Granel Química completed the expansion of Terminal 1, both in the Port of Itaqui. The president of the port, Ted Lago, and the president of Suzano, Walter Schalka, unveiled the identification sign alongside the director of the Department of New Grants and Port Regulatory Policies of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Fabio Lavor Teixeira, representing Minister Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas.
Deputy Governor Carlos Brandão, Ted Lago, and the managers of Granel Química for South America, Ary Serpa, and Brazil, Edson Souki, attended the inauguration event of the newly improved tanking terminal.

Suzano’s plan for the Port of Itaqui includes a warehouse that is currently under construction in addition to the berth previously mentioned. Together, both ventures will require an investment of R$ 390.2 million. In an auction held in 2018, Suzano secured the right to invest and run operations in the site for 25 years, renewable up to a limit of 70 years.
Suzano signed the document with the National Secretariat of Ports and Waterway Transportation (SNPTA), the National Waterway Transportation Agency (ANTAQ), and the Empresa Maranhense de Administração Portuária (EMAP), the state’s port authority.
Since the merger that gave rise to Suzano SA in early 2019, the company has already invested approximately R$ 770 million in port terminals in Brazil. This figure may rise to around R$ 900 million when the disbursements planned for 2022 are factored in.
Investment in logistics infrastructure has been part of the company’s strategy to guarantee the supply of its products to its international customers, regardless of the complex scenario faced since the pandemic’s inception.

With an investment of R$ 85 million, the Granel Química terminal in Itaqui will gain six more carbon steel tanks, increasing its storage capacity to 96 thousand cubic meters, up 30%.
Granel Qumica also has Terminal 2, which is close to the port region of Itaqui and has a storage capacity of 50 thousand cubic meters; both are connected, allowing for integrated operations.
