Svitzer, a towing and maritime assistance company under the A. P. Moller-Maersk Group has welcomed a new addition to its fleet, the Svitzer Atanásio, designated to operate in the Port of Santos on the São Paulo coast. The Svitzer Atanásio marks the third vessel in a series of six cutting-edge ASD (Azimuth Stern Drive) tugs, meticulously crafted by Robert Allan Ltd. and skillfully constructed at the Rio Maguari shipyard in Pará state.
Daniel Reedtz Cohen, the Managing Director of Svitzer Brasil, emphasizes that “the inclusion of the Atanásio into our fleet of four tugboats in Santos amplifies Svitzer Brasil’s prowess in terms of modernization and power. Santos, the busiest port in Brazil, holds immense importance, and we are dedicated to facilitating our clients’ trade flow by offering them the utmost dependable, secure, and potent resources.”
The Svitzer Atanásio, a reverse tractor tug or ASD hailing from the renowned Ramparts 2300 series, boasts a speed of 13 knots and an impressive towing capacity of 70 tonnes. This valuable addition elevates the Svitzer fleet in Santos, which already consists of four tugs. Commencing its operations at the close of July, the Svitzer Atanásio swiftly embarked on its vital role.
Svitzer has established its presence in Brazil since 2015, asserting its influence across eight vital national ports. Among these, Santos is the premier port in Latin America for container handling and ranks Brazil’s largest port.
