May, 20, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202122
Svitzer announced that for its operations in Brazil, it has signed a contract with the Brazilian shipyard Rio Maguari, for the delivery of four new azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugs with an average pull force of 70 tons.
Since arriving in Brazil in 2015, Svitzer has made available 14 ASD tugs to serve its customers in the ports of Santos, Vitória, Rio Grande, São Francisco do Sul, and Paranaguá and this will be the fourth time that the company has ordered new tugs to be built in Brazil. The four new tugs are an important addition to the existing fleet and a vital element in Svitzer Brasil’s growth ambitions.
Daniel Reedtz Cohen, Executive Director of Svitzer Brasil, says: “We have built a solid business here in Brazil with a good customer base, but we want to further increase our presence and expand our fleet, port coverage, and customer portfolio. Our ambition is to serve our customers as often as possible with tugs built in Brazil. I am very happy to announce this important step of expanding our fleet with four new tugs built at the Rio Maguari Shipyard. The four new tugs will be vital to our ability to satisfy our customers’ need for wide geographic coverage and to always provide safe, reliable, and efficient towing solutions “.
The four new tugs will be in the RAmparts 2300 series designed by Robert Allan Ltd. The first of the four new tugs will be delivered in October 2022, while the last of the four tugs will be delivered in April 2023.
