The Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França met this Wednesday (8) in Brasília with the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas (Republicans). In their first meeting, the central theme was the privatization of the Port of Santos.

Being from opposite sides, both had a friendly conversation on the subject. Tarcísio, who started the privatization analyzes of the main Brazilian terminal, is on a tour to convince the federal administration to take the proposal forward, as Lula asked him last month.

The continuity of the studies that will lead to the auction, however, is now up to Márcio França, who was once mayor of the neighboring city of São Vicente (SP) and is radically against the proposal. More recently, França said he was “discarding” the proposal – taking as examples ports in Australia that were privatized and that are now considered problematic for the country.
