On the morning of Tuesday, August 27, TCP, the company that manages the Port of Paranaguá Container Terminal, reached the milestone of 1 million TEUs carried. This achievement came 65 days earlier than in 2023, when the same mark was reached on October 31.
This impressive milestone is notably ahead of previous years’ benchmarks: in 2022, TCP hit 1 million TEUs on November 7, and in 2021, on November 28.
“With August still underway, TCP has already managed 80% of last year’s total volume. This early achievement underscores our commitment to efficient, safe, and prompt service, following a series of productivity records set in 2024,” said Felipe de França, TCP’s Operations Planning Manager.
In May, TCP set a new record for monthly container throughput, handling 136,201 TEUs—a 7% increase over the previous best of 127,877 TEUs achieved in December 2023.
The terminal also broke records in reefer container operations in June, moving 12,204 units—a 6% increase over October 2023’s 11,487. TCP now boasts the largest reefer container storage capacity in South America, with 5,268 connections available.
The completion of gate modernization and expansion in April 2024 led to two new productivity records. Container transitions reached 54,984 entries and exits, an 11% increase from the 49,517 recorded in November 2023. Additionally, daily transition volumes hit a new high of 2,557 in June, up 9% from the previous year’s 2,345.
“The gate upgrades have introduced automation and faster road access to the operational yard, leading to a 200% increase in entry bookings, from 50 to 150 per hour. This has significantly reduced truckers’ wait times,” explained França.
February also saw the terminal welcome 89 ship arrivals, a 7% increase from the previous record set in December 2023. This record year also saw the addition of two new weekly cabotage services and two long-haul services, bringing the total to 20 maritime services and 24 weekly calls.

Record Growth Fueled by Agro Cargo
In the first half of 2024, TCP reported a 37% increase in container throughput, handling 780,457 TEUs. Exports surged by 35%, while imports rose by 19%.
Giovanni Guidolim, TCP’s Commercial, Logistics, and Customer Service Manager, noted, “Thanks to strategic long-term investments, TCP entered 2024 with the capacity to manage increased cargo volumes and new customers. As a result, Paranaguá is strengthening its position as one of the leading export and import corridors in the country.”
