TCP invests in the use of private mobile networks

TCP – the company that manages the Container Terminal of Paranaguá – became the first port in Brazil licensed to use a private wireless LTE network. The company invested 1 million reais in the technology. LTE, which stands for Long Term Evolution, was implemented in addition to the Wi-Fi network, and TCP will keep both in production for greater operational availability.
The LTE technology is a standard for wireless broadband communication for mobile devices and data terminals, offering high speed, low latency, and the mobility necessary for the terminal’s operation. It is a private network with total capacity dedicated exclusively to the operation of TCP, which will develop smarter production apps, enriching the quality of service provided to customers. In addition, three Sunwave base stations were installed by Trópico at the terminal in Q1 2022.
“The LTE project is part of the high availability architectural plan. It is required to handle the terminal’s significant volume of operations, which exceeds 1 million TEUs, establishing TCP as a big-scale international port. Our objective is for TCP to provide the industry’s best and most sophisticated container system,” says Walter Maria Júnior, TCP’s IT manager.
Sunwave’s equipment was supplied and deployed by Trópico in the 2.3 GHz band, licensed by ANATEL to TCP in May. “In addition to combining coverage appropriate for the dimensions of the terminal with great data transmission capacity, this frequency is now for TCP’s exclusive use in the port region, ensuring that there will be no interference from other systems,” adds Paulo Cabestré, President of Trópico.
LTE technology allows data traffic at higher speeds and greater spectrum efficiency, meaning more connected devices without disrupting the network. Its advantage in ports is a faster and more stable wireless network, with browsing speeds close to 100 Mb/s downloads and 50 Mb/s uploads.
