TCP receives a new maritime route

The company that manages the Container Terminal in Paranaguá, TCP, will now have weekly stopovers on the GS1/UCLA2/GSA service connecting the Gulf of the United States to the East Coast of South America, a partnership between the shipowners Hapag-Lloyd, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and Ocean Network Express (ONE). The ship MSC Lausanne, expected to dock on September 1st, will mark the beginning of TCP’s 18th regular weekly service and will reinforce the terminal’s leadership in the concentration of maritime services in Brazil.
The commercial manager of shipowners, Carolina Brown, celebrates the new service, which provides more options to customers. “This is an excellent opportunity for us to increase our market share and develop new businesses, especially in exports in segments such as wood, pulp and paper and refrigerated cargo”, explains Carolina Brown.
Leaving from Mexico, the line will go to the United States, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and will return through Brazil to Colombia and ending in the country of origin. There will be seven vessels from Hapag-Lloyd, one from MSC and one from ONE. In all, nine ships with an average capacity of 6,400 TEUs will be part of the fleet, with emphasis on the Tokyo Bay container, by Hapag-Lloyd, with a capacity of 6,622 TEUs.
According to the commercial manager, the new line projects a volume of around 600 movements per ship in the week. “The ships on the new line are, on average, 290 meters long and have 830 plugs to power temperature-controlled containers. To meet this great demand, we already have an ongoing project to expand the reefer yard, which will increase from 3,572 outlets to 5,126, a growth of 43% by the end of the year”, she highlights. The reefer area is a space in the terminal dedicated to temperature-controlled containers. The environment guarantees the energization of containers and the cooling of frozen meat, the busiest commodity at the terminal.
Another action that attracted the arrival of larger ships was the expansion of the draft in the main channel from 11 to 12.30 meters and in the alternative channel (Surdinho), which increased from 11.50 to 12.30 meters. The draft is the depth between the lowest point of the keel (part of the vessel that strengthens the structure) of a vessel to the waterline. The mooring berths also underwent recent increases and today have a draft of 13 meters. In all, there are 3 berths (place where the ship docks at the pier) and 7 suits (teams that work on board the vessel), which favor the reception of new scales.
This is the second new line acquired by TCP in 2023. In February, the company announced the start of stopovers for the Braservice, operated by the Panamanian shipowner CTM, and represented in South America by Poseidon Container Shipping. The maritime route connects Paranaguá to Cuba, Colombia, Panama, Dominican Republic and Mexico
