TCP reports container throughput over 1 million TEUs in 2022

TCP reached the milestone of 1 million TEUs at the terminal in 2022 on November 8. The throughput was measured 20 days before the terminal achieved the same mark last year, on November 28, 2021. The mark was reached during the berthing of the CMA CGM Rhone, which received 3,037 movements.
With the increase in the port’s draft, reduction in maneuvering restrictions, and investments in personnel, the vessels’ waiting time at the terminal decreased by 44% from January to October of last year. “The terminal is increasing its operational and structural capacity to receive ever larger ships with large amounts of cargo,” says commercial director Jan Zhang. The number of teams has also increased, allowing greater mobility, shorter berthing times, and faster ship turnover.”
In the first ten months of the year, 58.9% of all full container loads were bound for export, with a focus on meat (160,147 TEUs) and wood (61,586 TEUs); and 41.1% were imported, with a focus on electrical equipment and components (29,223 TEUs) and mechanic gear (61,586 TEUs) (28,064 TEUs).
See below the container exports and imports recorded at Paranagua’s TCP in the first ten months of the year from 2019 to 2022, according to the DataLiner data service.

Another highlight of the terminal’s development is the railroad, which handled approximately 160,000 TEUs during this period, representing a 38.5% increase over the same period last year. This figure exceeds the total number of containers handled in 2021.
Meat exports grew the most year-on-year, with a total increase of 17,215 TEUs (11.6% more than the same period in 2021). The second most significant increase was in the import of agricultural chemicals, which increased by 12,386 TEUs (168%), followed by the import of electrical equipment and components, which increased by 23.6% (5,694 TEUs more).
The company expects to end 2022 with approximately 1.190 million TEUs, representing an 8% growth compared to 2021. “These are large investments and high-impact goals for the country. The objective is to transform TCP into a reference for the international market,” highlights the director.
