TCP throughput up 29% in January

Containers moved by TCP, the Paranaguá Container Terminal, grew 29% in the first month of 2020, in comparison with the same month in 2019. The throughput was also an all-time record, at 84,601 TEU.
Thomas Lima, Vice Commercial Director of TCP, said the numbers are the result of strong sales work to win new clients, converting from shipping in other states like São Paulo and Santa Catarina. Some of the main increases in January were seen in reefer cargo (26%) and consumer goods and electronics (18%).
“The Terminal started the year well, following on from the positive results obtained in 2019, when we registered the biggest throughput ever. A total of 915,242 TEU were moved in 2019, a result of developing customized logistical solutions, focussed entirely on the customer, and offering safe, fast, effective logistics, at the best prices”, he said.
As well as offering a modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment, TCP allows for simultaneous operation of up to three of the largest and most modern container ships. “This generates confidence that cargoes that arrives at Paranaguá will be handled within stipulated periods and without risks. Another key factor is the number of shipping services offered at the terminal, the only one with connections to all services to the Asian continent ”, points out the executive.
The forecast is that the annual movement of the Terminal in 2020 will grow more than 10%, mainly from the flow of wood, cotton, paper and pulp, refrigerated cargo, as well as consumer goods and electronics.
