Jul, 19, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202429
A global tech outage on the morning of Friday, 19th, caused significant disruptions at the Port of Paranaguá, located about 90 kilometers from Curitiba. The company managing TCP (Paranaguá Container Terminal) reported that their system is “unstable.”
Due to this instability, truck queues formed, and the company extended the registration period for new appointments. The company reported that vehicles with deliveries scheduled for Friday but not in the queue should avoid heading to the terminal.
The issuance of new appointments has been suspended as of this article’s writing on Friday, July 19.
The measures taken aim to reduce truck waiting times around the terminal and prevent further traffic congestion.
Portos do Paraná, responsible for the port’s administration, told news agency IstoÉ that the port’s operations are normal. The failure occurred exclusively at the Paranaguá container terminal, causing the queues.
Tech Outage
A software update outage from the security company CrowdStrike affected banking and telecommunications systems and disrupted flights in several regions worldwide on Friday, the 19th.
This major IT crash impacted various activities globally. Major airlines in the United States suspended flights early Friday morning. Ryanair, one of Europe’s largest airlines, advised passengers to arrive at airports three hours in advance to avoid inconvenience.
CrowdStrike’s CEO stated that the worldwide cyber outage has been identified and is being fixed.
