Santos Brasil has recently signed a contract with Panamanian shipowner CTM – Corporación de Transportes Marinos, represented by the shipping agency Poseidon Container Shipping in Brazil. As a result, Santos Brasil’s container terminal in Imbituba will begin receiving a new shipping line starting in August. This connection marks the return of an international line to the Port of Imbituba after a four-year hiatus, during which the port operated solely with a weekly cabotage service.
The service will commence with the vessel X-press Moy, making calls in Imbituba every three weeks. Once it reaches its maximum capacity, CTM plans to introduce the MV Theodor as the second ship on the route. In the first half of 2023, these two ships made three trips to Brazil, serving various ports such as Cartagena (Colombia), Rio Haina (Dominican Republic), and Mariel (Cuba). These ports also serve as vital Hub-Ports for Central America and the Caribbean. The recent shipments primarily transported essential goods such as rice, sugar, soy oil, corn, frozen goods, and personal hygiene and cleaning materials.

Managed by the State of Santa Catarina through SCPar, the Port of Imbituba last had an international connection between 2017 and 2019.
Governor Jorginho Mello expressed the significance of the new line for Imbituba, stating, “It is very important for us to receive this new line in Imbituba, which has had no new international operations since 2019. This interest in Santa Catarina reinforces our success in giving prominence to the port sector.” Governor Mello has implemented the Secretary of Ports, Airports, and Railways (Spaf) during his current administration.
Strategically located in the center of the southern region of Brazil, Tecon Imbituba is equidistant from the capitals Curitiba and Porto Alegre, with proximity to Florianópolis. Situated in one of the country’s main industrial and port centers, the terminal is easily accessible by road (via BR-101), rail, and sea. It benefits from its deep water and sheltered port, enabling unrestricted access for large ships navigating the Brazilian coast.
