TecPlata requires significant investments to become fully operational

As reported by DatamarNews, The TecPlata Container Terminal announced it will receive its first vessel ‘Jacarandá’ on April 2. Although the terminal plans to double the stowage capacity to 900,000 containers a year (requiring an investment of US$150m) from its current capacity of 400,000 containers, the reality is not that straight forward according to a Nuestromar article.
If we translate the projected cargo handling capacity into truckloads, the port needs to be able to receive 1,460 trucks per day to move that many containers. The infrastructure surrounding the terminal needs to be developed significantly to support this movement e.g. the completion of connecting roads between the Buenos Aires – La Plata Highway and Avenida del Petroleo. The port also needs to employ 900 people directly to reach the expected level of functionality.
