Port of Itaqui’s Grain Terminal (Tegram) plans to invest 1.6 billion reais to increase its annual grain throughput capacity by 8.5 million tonnes, as announced in a press statement on the 23rd.
The terminal’s handling capacity is expected to rise to 23.5 million tonnes, up from the current 15 million tonnes, with the completion of the project’s third phase in the second half of 2026.
“The estimate is that starting from 2027, exports will represent an increase of 18.3 billion reais annually with the completion of phase 3, solidifying Itaqui as the largest grain exporter in the North and Northeast regions of the country,” according to a press release from the Tegram-Itaqui.

Initially, the warehouses of this consortium had a static capacity of 500,000 tonnes, with 125,000 tonnes each. With the implementation of phase 3, it will increase to 856,800 tonnes, representing an additional growth of 356,000 tonnes in static capacity through the construction of new silos, according to Randal Luciano, the Executive Director of Tegram, as mentioned in the press release.
“This initiative is a milestone for Brazil’s North and Northeast regions, consolidating the shift in Brazil’s structural logistics and port axis, which, prior to Tegram, was concentrated in the South-Southeast axis,” Luciano commented.
In phase three, among other developments, the connection through the railway mode will be enhanced in Tegram’s current structures and the future grain-receiving hopper structure [moega] of Itaqui Port, a project being conducted by the railway operator VLI in conjunction with the port authority EMAP.
