Temape announces BRL 130 million investment to expand Suape Port terminal

Terminais Marítimos de Pernambuco S.A (Temape) revealed a BRL 130 million plan to expand its terminal in the Port of Suape. Currently overseeing a liquid bulk cargo terminal in the port’s primary zone, the company aims to enhance the site’s capacity from 58k m³ to 83k m³.

The expansion project, set to be financed by Banco do Nordeste (BNB), is expected to commence in 12 months and span a duration of eight months. During this period, approximately 120 direct and indirect job opportunities will emerge in both the construction and operation phases.

The contract signing between Temape and the bank took place in Recife, attended by Paulo Câmara, President of BNB, Pedro Ermírio de Almeida Freitas Filho, State Superintendent of the bank, Luiz Antônio de Andrade Bezerra, Director of Temape, and Fernando Guerra Júnior, Superintendent of Temape.

Paulo Câmara stressed the significant contribution of infrastructure investments to the growth of new businesses and the economy. “These modern projects that we finance generate jobs both during construction and in operation. They also stimulate other services such as transport, maintenance, and distribution, which, in turn, create employment opportunities throughout the chain,” he stated.

In addition to the expansion in Suape, Temape has pledged BRL 149.6 million for the development of a fuel tanking terminal at the Port of Itaqui in Maranhão, with financial resources provided by the Constitutional Financing Fund of the Northeast (FNE).

The construction works are projected to be completed within 14 months, generating approximately 150 direct and indirect jobs during the construction and operation phases. The project encompasses two stages: the first involves the installation of 11 tanks, providing a total capacity of 57.2 thousand cubic meters (m³). Additional civil works, such as the construction of road loading and unloading platforms and a railway diversion with a capacity for 12 wagons, capable of loading up to 1,800 m³ per day, are also part of the initiative.

The second phase of the project, which may entail another credit agreement with BNB, entails the construction of six more tanks, elevating the tanking capacity to around 95,000 m³. The Temape project is set to establish one of the nation’s most advanced and automated fuel terminals, with a loading capacity of up to 5,400 m³/h (rail and road).
