In July, Tereos completed its largest shipment of VHP sugar in the 2024/2025 season to date, exporting 60,000 tonnes on a single vessel bound for the Asian market, with Indonesia as the destination. The operation occurred at the Luiz Antônio Mesquita Multimodal Terminal (Tiplam), operated by VLI, in the Santos region. Tiplam is a key hub for importing and exporting goods transported across the Southeast Corridor of the Centro-Atlântica Railway.
The chart below shows the sugar export volume at the Port of Santos between January 2021 and June 2024. The information was derived from DataLiner.

In November 2020, VLI and Tereos inaugurated two sugar warehouses—one at Tiplam, with a capacity to store 115,000 tonnes of raw sugar, and another at the Guará Multimodal Integration Terminal (TIGU) in São Paulo, near some of Tereos’ industrial units. This logistical complex can handle 160,000 tonnes of sugar, facilitating Tereos’ export volumes through Tiplam.
The record volume shipped marks a significant milestone for Tereos, reflecting the continuous growth of its export capacity and its prominent position in the sector. “This achievement reinforces our ability to meet large international orders and solidifies our partnership with VLI, which is essential for operations of this magnitude,” said Gustavo Segantini, Tereos’ Commercial Director.
“The efficiency of our multimodal logistics operations and the strategic distribution of our assets across the Southeast Corridor allow us to efficiently, effectively, and safely transport sugar from Goiás, Minas Gerais, and São Paulo, always striving to generate additional value for our customers’ businesses while also contributing to the growth of Brazilian exports,” stated Nicolas Szwako, VLI’s Southeast Corridor Operations Director.
Tereos is already planning additional large VHP shipments to Asia in the second half of 2024. VHP (Very High Polarization) is raw sugar that is less moist and darker in color. It is typically exported to undergo refining in other countries.
