The dredging contract of the Port of Cabedelo will be signed next Tuesday

The governor of Paraíba, João Azevêdo, should sign, next Tuesday (29), the dredging contract for the Port of Cabedelo, located in the João Pessoa area.
The service will include deepening the access channel and maneuvering basis for an investment that reaches almost R$ 90 million from the state’s resources.
Once the work is completed, the port will be 11 meters deep in the access channel, an increase from its current 9.14 meters. The maneuvering basin will be 300 meters wide.
In practice, these improvements will allow the Port of Cabedelo to receive vessels with a greater tonnage of cargo, thus naturally expanding its competitiveness and increasing Paraíba’s state revenue.
According to Gilmara Temóteo, president of Companhia Docas da Paraíba (Docas-PB), the port currently accepts vessels up to 210 meters in length overall (LOA) and 40 meters in beam (width) but limiting cargo capacity to 35 thousand tonnes.
After dredging, the Port of Cabedelo will receive vessels with the same length and width, though the accepted capacity will go up to 55 thousand tonnes.
DTA Engenharia will conduct these works. The company won the bid held on March 7th. Operations should start in early June and may take four months to be completed after mobilization, execution, and demobilization processes.
