The earnings collected by the Port of Recife reached R$5,740,949.03 in the first two months of 2022. In the same period last year, the anchorage had collected R$4,178,644.56.
“Compared with 2021, our collection growth was 37.3% due to the revenue generated from cargo storage inside our terminals,” says Fernando Lins, administrative and financial director of the port.
Storage mostly entails storing cargo within the port’s warehouses. These products are unloaded from vessels and kept inside the appropriate structures found at the mooring berths, being distributed according to the importer’s demand.
The revenue generated from storage in January 2022 reached R$584,604.64 and more than doubled in February, reaching R$1,193,460.65. “Wheat was the commodity that raised our income the most, with 22,984 tonnes placed in warehouses 8, 2, and R2. The importer required extra room and storage time, which resulted in more revenue being redirected to the port,” says José Divard de Oliveira, commercial and operations director of the Port of Recife.
