The leasing of the Port of Suape’s Solid Bulk Terminal (TGSS), which covers 72 thousand square meters in the Pier 5 area, is expected to bring in R$ 59.8 million in the coming months.
The National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq) issued the bidding notice last Friday (4th), with more information available since the 8th. The auction will be held on March 30th at B3 in São Paulo, with a minimum grant amount of R$ 1.00 per person.
The terminal to be tendered was designed to handle and store vegetable and mineral bulk, as well as general cargo, and is currently under a transitional contract with the Pernambuco company M&G São Caetano. The 25-year contract will be signed later this year, while operations are set for 2024. The public notice and annexes can be found on the Ministry of Infrastructure’s (www.gov.br/infraestrutura) and Antaq’s (https://www.gov.br/antaq/pt-br/assuntos/leiloes) respective websites.
The soon-to-be-leased area is located within the organized Port of Suape, facing the Atlântico Sul Shipyard (EAS). The future lessee must provide investments to guarantee a minimum static capacity of 12 thousand tonnes, as well as acquire road reception and belt conveyor systems to ensure the productivity of 549 tonnes per hour for handling petroleum coke and 128 t/h for handling bagged sugar, respectively.
Fully regularized and complying with all environmental licensing requirements, the TGSS is able to store sugar and various bulks, such as soybeans, soy bran, wheat, corn, malt, barley, rice, beans, flour, cereals, petroleum coke, and fertilizers, through the use of a shiploader, an equipment used to transport bulk from warehouses to vessels.
The terminal has been operating since June last year. Following Agrovia do Nordeste’s return of the area and approval from Antaq, the space was made available for contracting under the transition regime. M&G São Caetano took part in the public call in 2020 and won the transitional tender with the highest price.
The terminal can handle between 500 and 600 thousand tonnes of cargo each year. If the company wants to keep operating the space, it must participate in and win the auction on the 30th.
