On the 19th of May, the Itajaí and Navegantes Port Complex reached the milestone of 900 turns in the area of the New Maneuvering Basin. The 900th turn was achieved with a Panama-flagged vessel Ever Urban. With 285 meters long and 40 meters wide, it was unmoored at the Portonave terminal (berth 03)
Coming from the Port of Paranaguá (PR), the ship left on the afternoon of the 19th bound for the port of Santos and handled 2,000,000 containers and 48,287 tonnes.
The project’s first phase to expand the waterway access to the Itajaí and Navegantes Port Complex was concluded in 2019, allowing the arrival of vessels larger than 350 meters. The first test maneuver in the New Maneuvering Basin area took place in January 2020 and was considered a milestone for Itajaí. The unprecedented reverse maneuver was performed with the ship VALOR, 300 meters long and 48.3 meters wide (beam). The maneuver carried out for the first time in Brazil started at Portonave’s berth 02.
The second implementation stage of the Maneuvering Basin is designed to receive ships up to 400 meters wide. The project was designed to keep track of the new international maritime trade reality, constantly pushing for larger carriers. The second stage also aims to adapt the port capacity to increase its competitiveness.
