The Ponta do Félix port, located at Antonina, on the coast of Paraná, will inaugurate sex new vertical silos in the second half of this year to house barley, malt, and wheat. Each silo will have a static capacity of 6,700 tonnes, totaling 40,000 tonnes.
In total, approximately R$ 45 million will be invested in the new assets. The facilities are part of the port expansion project, which also includes the construction of a new fertilizer warehouse in an area of 17,000 square meters with a capacity of 120,000 tons.
Currently, Ponta do Félix has 65 thousand square meters of storage infrastructures, with an estimated static capacity of 270 thousand tonnes, reaching 2 million tonnes handled per year. With the silos, the estimate of static capacity will rise to 430 thousand tonnes.
The new silos will preferably serve two customers who have already signed a long-term supply contract for the next ten years. They are the Petrópolis breweries from Rio de Janeiro, which make several beer brands, including Petra and Itaipava, and the Uruguayan Barley, a malt supplier. According to the port, other breweries and maltries will also be able to use the port’s infrastructure, always respecting the preference of these two customers who already have signed contracts.
The president of the Ponta do Félix port, Gilberto Birkhan, said that such an investment reinforces the new role of the Port of Antonina, which is increasingly specializing in high-value-added cargo that requires different treatment compared to general cargo. “Because it is a smaller port focused on special cargo, we can offer agility. One of the main advantages of operating through Antonina is the possibility of customizing operations”, he points out.
The port of Ponta do Félix is a private company, concessionaire of the multipurpose public port terminal of Antonina, founded in 1995. The concession was awarded to Ponta do Félix in a leasing contract with the Port Administration of Paranaguá and Antonina (APPA). The mooring pier was finished in 2000, and refrigerated items, forest products, and steel exports commenced.
