The Port of Imbituba saw a 45.9% increase in cargo handling in April

The Port of Imbituba ended April with a 45.9% increase in its cargo handling index compared to the same period in 2021. Compared to the same month in past years, the volume of 680,954 tonnes is the largest ever recorded, making it rank 4th among Imbituba’s largest monthly transactions.
Import (45.8%) and export (45.5%) operations were practically equal in terms of volume, followed by cabotage (8.7%).
In 2022 so far, the public port located in the south of Santa Catarina handled more than 2.6 million tonnes and received 117 vessels.
Solid bulk products accounted for 86.2% of Imbituba operations in April. Most of it was petroleum coke, followed by iron ore, corn, and bituminous coal. Containers, despite the 5.1% decrease compared to the number of TEUs transported in April 2021, showed an increase of 21.9% in the accumulated from January to April, compared to the volume carried out in the first four months of last year.

According to Fábio Riera, CEO of SCPAR Porto de Imbituba, the company that manages the Port, the port shall reach a new historical record in 2022, exceeding 7 million tonnes per year.
