The Port of Itajaí received a RoRo vessel for the first time in two years

The ship FLORIDA HIGHWAY moored at berth 04 in the port of Itajaí at 8:00 a.m. on the 16th, carrying vehicles from the German manufacturer BMW.

The Panama-flagged vessel, with a length of 199.97 meters and a beam (width) of 32.26 meters, transported 463 units (imported vehicles) from the Port of Paranaguá (PR). The ship is owned by the Japanese corporation K-LINE.

This type of cargo operation occurs through the roll-on roll-off system in which vehicles are driven off a vessel and forwarded to a primary port area.

After unloading, the vehicles were transported directly to the years of ValePort and the Contiguous Customs Area to be inspected. Subsequently, they were shipped in storks and later sent to other states in the country.

The vehicles originate from the cities of Jacksonville, Florida (United States), Southampton in England, and Bremerhaven, in Germany.

A program is being developed for the Port of Itajaí to receive up to a monthly call from Roll On Roll Off ships.

“This is the solidification of a long-standing work. BMW has spent many years researching the best way to bring automobiles to customers in Santa Catarina. This event is the result of many people’s efforts, including the logistics team in Brazil and teams in other countries, involving legal, purchasing, insurance, and the entire structure required to make this happen. As a result, we have delivered an operationally and economically viable solution through this arrangement, which makes us suited for the international car transport model,” comments João Batista Martins, Senior After Sales Logistics Manager at BMW.
