Undergraduate and graduate students and professors at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UFRPE) will gain a new campus in the port of Suape. It will be possible to conduct practical classes there and develop projects and research in various fields, including engineering, environmental technology, biotechnology, and agroecology, thanks to a technical cooperation agreement.
The Suape-UFRPE Sustainability Station (Esus) will operate on the 5th floor of the Suape headquarters. It opened on Tuesday, May 17. This will be the fifth advanced campus of UFPRE, which has units in São Lourenço da Mata (RMR), Carpina (Zona da Mata), Garanhuns (Agreste) and Ibimirim (Sertão). In the neighboring city of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, UFRPE has an academic unit offering degrees in five engineering fields (civil, materials, electrical, electronic, and mechanical).
In addition to providing the facilities for Esus, Suape will prepare and submit public notice proposals for fundraising in partnership with the university. The presence of UFPR in the port will also strengthen its relationship with the companies installed in the state-owned port, allowing an increased exchange of services, experiences, and information.
“With the help of academia, we will seek ways to make our projects more cost-effective and sustainable. We already have a partnership with CESAR to develop technological tools,” emphasizes the CEO of Suape, Roberto Gusmao.
