On January 31st, the Suape Industrial Port Complex signed a work order to begin the multidisciplinary technical studies required to review and elaborate a new Master Plan for 2030. The work will be carried out by the bid-winning consortium of TPF and Ceplan.
The initiative aims to rethink the company’s entire physical-territorial and strategic planning in light of new market demands and the challenges posed by the current economic scenario. The services will be completed within 15 months.
The total investment for the project is R$ 6.8 million, which is the competition’s winning price. On January 8th, the extract was published in the Official Gazette. The service order was signed by several Suape directors and consortium representatives in a remote meeting.
The Suape 2030 Master Plan was created in 2011, following rapid growth at the Port Industrial Complex. At the time, the State Government announced R$ 710 million in investments, which was more than the R$ 643 million invested in Suape since its inception. The short, medium and long term were considered to guide the complex’s strategic vision towards its goals and objectives through 2030.
With the economic crisis in place since 2014, Pernambuco has experienced a significant reduction in federal transfers and diminished access to credit. Other factors, such as a drop in GDP and an increase in unemployment altered some of the forecast scenarios.
As a result, many projects and investments plans were not completed. This economic scenario prompted the rethinking of the national and state-led development model.
Considering the meet market demands, Suape will promote the critical review and update its action plan based on the challenges and variables seen at the national, regional, and local levels over the following years.
The complex’s current zoning, in particular, will be reviewed, as will the Suape port layout, in light of new technologies and innovations planned for the sector, such as the production of green hydrogen.
