TOC Africa, a part of the global port and cargo supply chain event series by TOC Worldwide, had a successful first day.
With delegates representing 35 different nations, the event, held in Tangier, Morocco, from September 20 to 21, 2023, is strategically situated near Tanger Med, its host port, and supported by DP World.
Delegates experienced a comprehensive conference program along with a tour of Tanger Med, the largest container port in Africa and the Mediterranean. Day One primarily focused on discussions surrounding the development of port and logistics infrastructure in Morocco and across Africa. Key industry topics such as sustainability, digitization, and managing challenges amid economic disruptions and unforeseen events were widely explored.
The event received an honored guest, His Excellency Mohammed Abdeljalil, the Minister of Transport & Logistics for the Kingdom of Morocco. He shared valuable insights on how Morocco is benefiting from embracing opportunities related to robust logistics infrastructure. In his opening speech, he emphasized Morocco’s commitment to liberalizing the maritime transport sector, developing competitive ports, and implementing advanced regulations for port facilities. Morocco has outlined an ambitious port strategy for 2030, which acts as a roadmap for the country’s port development, exemplified by the Tangier Med Port Complex project.
Fouad Brini, Chairman of the Tanger Med Group, highlighted Tanger Med’s role as a leading port platform in the Mediterranean and Africa, contributing to the logistical competitiveness of the continent. He stressed Tanger Med’s alignment with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, fostering cooperation between port authorities and African special economic zones.
Regional representatives added to the discussions by illustrating how port facilities are evolving to leverage their advantageous geographical and economic positions. The overall sentiment among speakers and attendees was optimistic, with the belief that Africa holds a promising future.
Alongside the conference, TOC Africa hosted an exhibition showcasing products and services. Exhibitors expressed satisfaction with their interactions, which included engaging in conversations with current and potential customers and networking with industry peers from Africa and beyond.
The final day of TOC Africa took place in Tangier on Thursday, September 21st.
