In Brazil, the production and export of turkey meat are dominated by two major companies: BRF, formed from the merger of Perdigão and Sadia, and JBS, which operates under the Seara brand. These companies primarily operate in Paraná and Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul.
The Department of Rural Economy (Deral) of the Paraná State Secretariat for Agriculture released this information in its Agricultural Situation Report on May 29th.
According to Agrostat Brasil data, turkey meat exports in the first four months of 2024 totaled 20,114 tonnes, generating US$51.230 million in foreign exchange. These figures represent a 4.3% decrease in volume and an 11.02% drop in revenue compared to the same period in the previous year when 21,007 tonnes were shipped abroad, totaling US$57.574 million.
In the first four months of 2024, the leading exporting states were Santa Catarina, at US$21.672 million and 8,757 tonnes; Rio Grande do Sul, at US$17.836 million and 7,798 tonnes; and Paraná, with US$11.684 million and 4,550 tonnes. Compared to the same period last year, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul saw decreases in turkey meat exports, with drops of 10.7% and 27.6%, respectively. Conversely, Paraná experienced a 27.7% increase.
Of the total exported, 95.07% accounted for “in natura” products, amounting to 19,132 tonnes. The average price of fresh turkey meat was $2,463.24 per ton, down 13.1% from the previous year’s average of $2,835.69 per ton.
