The orange juice supply chain is also concerned about President Donald Trump’s tariff hike. The executive order imposing an additional 10% tariff on juice could result in an extra R$100 million in taxes paid by Brazilian exporters. Overall, taking into account all taxes levied on the entry of the beverage, the total could reach US$200 million or R$1.1 billion annually, according to CitrusBR, the organization representing exporters Cutrale, Citrosuco, and Louis Dreyfus.
The United States accounts for 37% of Brazilian exports of the product. According to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) compiled by CitrusBR, between July 2024 and February 2025, 207,200 tons of frozen concentrated orange juice (FCOJ 66 Brix) were shipped, generating US$ 879.8 million in revenue.
Based on the current performance of the 2024/25 crop and projecting an annual export volume of 235,500 tons to the American market, the impact of the new tariff could reach around US$ 100 million per year, or R$ 585 million, considering an exchange rate of R$ 5.85 per dollar.
This amount adds to the taxes already in place, such as the US$415-per-ton tariff on FCOJ, equivalent to 66 Brix. According to CitrusBR, in 2024 alone, this tax amounted to US$85.9 million in payments. Thus, combining current tariffs with the new measure, total taxes could reach approximately US$200 million annually, or around R$1.1 billion.
Despite the situation, CitrusBR states that “Brazilian companies continue, individually and based on their commercial strategies, to supply the United States market with high-quality orange juice.”
“The sector regrets, however, that the measure was adopted without considering the historic complementarity between Brazilian production and the Florida industry, as well as the long-term relationship with bottling companies operating in the United States.”
