President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) stated on September 23rd that the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, had proposed to him an emergency agreement with Brazil to import supplies that are in short supply in England. The Minister of Agriculture will review the proposal.
Following the country’s exit from the EU in January, the UK announced the postponement of the imposition of customs controls on food imported from the European Union. The country is currently facing a supply crisis in supermarkets and restaurants.
In recent weeks, during an event with agribusiness entities at Apex Brasil, the minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França, spoke about the situation of food shortages in some countries, but avoided mentioning England by name.
