Ultracargo Implements Study to Improve Loading Times at Vila do Conde Port

Ultracargo conducted a technical study to address delays in loading operations and time restrictions for barge mooring and unmooring at Vila do Conde Port (PA). Based on the survey, port authorities updated the port’s regulations, improving movement flow and reducing operational times.
According to the company, the previous rule required that barge mooring and unmooring maneuvers at Berth 502 could only be performed during the flood tide and daylight hours. This directly impacted the port’s logistical efficiency, significantly limiting its operational capacity.
The technical study demonstrated that these operations could be safely carried out during ebb and flood tides, provided the approach occurs against the prevailing current and during daylight hours.
Ultracargo stated that the findings were presented and approved during a meeting with Companhia Docas do Pará (CDP) representatives and the Eastern Amazon Port Authority. With the new operational rules implemented by the port authority, clients can now load or unload more than one barge per day at Berth 502.
Additionally, nighttime mooring and unmooring of ships at Berth 501 have been permanently authorized, which was previously not allowed. This restriction often caused delays of up to 12 hours for vessels, increasing operational costs.
According to the company’s vice president, Helano Pereira Gomes, the changes in the Vila do Conde terminal regulations represent a significant advancement for clients and other companies operating in the region.
“Previously, if a company had four barges to load, it required four days to complete the operation since there is only one flood tide per day. Under the new conditions, the same process can be safely completed in a maximum of two days, depending on the barge size and the operation. This is a major logistical improvement,” he stated.
