Uruguay dairy exports climb 49% YoY

Dairy exports from Uruguay showed strong dynamism in May. According to data from Uruguay XXI, foreign sales totaled US$ 81 million and grew 49% year-on-year.
While some destinations like China (US$4 million) and Russia (US$3 million) performed poorly, sales to Algeria grew 150% to US$26 million.
From January to May, dairy sales from Uruguay totaled US$ 335 million and grew 29% compared to last year. Algeria (US$ 104 million), China (US$ 54 million), and Brazil (US$ 40 million) lead as main destinations.
According to data from Uruguay’s Exporters Union (UEU), the volume of dairy products exported in May was 21,681 tonnes, up from 17,710 tonnes (+22.2%) in the same month last year.
The foreign trade of all Uruguayan goods showed a record performance in May, a historic milestone. Sales abroad, including those derived from free zones, totaled US$ 1.541 billion and grew 57.4% year-on-year, reported Uruguay XXI.
Again, from January to May, shipments totaled US$ 5.516 billion and grew 40% compared to the same period in 2021, which had been a record for exports of goods.
