The national directorates of customs in Uruguay and Paraguay have signed a cooperation agreement to exchange information and recognition of non-intrusive inspections. The agreement also includes the acquisition of three scanners, which will allow the two countries to better control the flow of goods across their borders.
Speaking to the press, the Uruguayan Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, said that the agreement “is a major step forward in the fight against drug smuggling and trafficking.” He added that the new scanners will allow customs authorities to have a better view of the cargo entering and leaving the two countries, which will facilitate the identification of illegal products.
The agreement is also a sign of regional cooperation between Uruguay and Paraguay. Both countries are working together to improve their border security and promote legal trade.
The agreement comes at a time when both countries are facing increased pressure from drug traffickers. In recent years, there has been a growing trend of drug trafficking through the region, and both Uruguay and Paraguay are important transit points for cocaine shipments.
The new scanners will be a valuable tool in the fight against drug trafficking. They will allow customs authorities to scan containers more quickly and efficiently, and they will also be able to detect hidden compartments that are used to smuggle drugs.
The agreement is a positive step for both Uruguay and Paraguay. It will help to improve their border security, and it will also send a message to drug traffickers that they will not be tolerated in the region.
