Uruguay’s Terminal Cuenca del Plata See 1st Call of ZIM Gulf Toucan Service

Maritime Terminal Cuenca del Plata (TCP), a container terminal located at the Port of Montevideo, received the inaugural call of the new service from the Israeli shipping company ZIM, named ZIM Gulf Toucan.

The port terminal, managed by Katoen Natie Group and Uruguay’s National Ports Administration (ANP), welcomed the box ship Bright, which arrived from Itapoá, Brazil.

The ZIM Gulf Toucan service will connect the East Coast of South America with the Gulf of Mexico and the United States, employing vessels with a capacity of up to 2,800 TEUs.

The vessel Bright, registered under the flag of Portugal and launched in 2018, has the capacity to handle 2,708 TEUs. Additionally, it boasts dimensions of 185 meters in length, 34 meters in width, and a reported draft of 8.5 meters.

The route of the service will cover the ports of Buenos Aires – Montevideo – Navegantes or Itapoa – Paranaguá – Santos – Rio de Janeiro – Cartagena – Kingston – Veracruz – Altamira – Houston – Mobile – Kingston – Cartagena – Santos – Buenos Aires.

“Connections to other ports in North America, the Caribbean, Central America, and the west coast of South America will be made through ZIM’s regional hubs,” stated the company.

The ZIM Gulf Toucan service will not be the only one from the Israeli company to debut in South America during 2024, as the ZIM Albatross will do the same on the continent’s West Coast.
