A group of soybean producers from the United States visited the Itaqui Port in Maranhão on Saturday (20) to scour business opportunities in the region. The visit is part of a benchmarking mission organized by the Iowa Soybean Association.
During the week, the group also visited the cities of Balsas and Imperatriz in Maranhão. In São Luís, they toured the facilities of the Itaqui Port, one of Brazil’s major soybean export terminals.
“The Itaqui Port is one of the most modern in the world and has great potential to meet the demands of agribusiness,” said Luciana Kuzolitz, the port’s planning manager. “Itaqui has been standing out in international agribusiness, and this visibility comes not only from consecutive records but also from our logistical efficiency. They were able to learn about the differentiators of the Itaqui Port, along with a keen interest in our expansion and future plans,” she added.
In addition to touring the port, the group visited farms, machinery dealerships, and agribusiness institutions in Maranhão. The American producers were impressed with the potential of the Itaqui Port and its strategic location.
“Maranhão is a state with great potential for soybean production,” said Ricardo Arioli Silva, president of the National Commission of Cereals, Fibers, and Oilseeds. “The visit to the Itaqui Port showed us that the region is prepared to meet the demands of the international market.”
The visit by US soybean producers is an opportunity for Maranhão to strengthen its ties with the international market. The region has significant potential for soybean production, and the port is a crucial asset for exporting the harvest.
