US takes 2nd place in beef imports, best for JBS, Marfrig and Minerva

The fall in general beef exports in the first half of the year may not be good news, but there are reasons for celebration with the expressive re-entry of the United States in purchases.
Although light years away from the Chinese volume (519,022 tons), during the first 5 months of the year, the Americans imported practically everything they had purchased from Brazil in 2020, respectively 42,482 tons for 54,300 tons. Quality and price factors prevail.
The half-yearly high, each time consisting of fresh meats, when until 2019 only processed products were guaranteed, is 111.3% above the same period last year. The cuts are of greater added value than industrialized meat, generally made from low-value raw material.
According to Secex statistics, Abrafrigo presented global sales of 880,000 tons, 3.2% lower than in 2020, but with a 4.4% increase in revenue, to US$ 4.084 billion.
Although only JBS, Marfrig, and Minerva are the groups with authorized plants, in addition to the small Frigorífico Astra, from Paraná, the purchasing power of the United States channels the interests of other applicants who are awaiting authorization from the Ministry and the US government counterparty.
See Brazil’s share of beef exports to the United States in the chart below. Data are from DataLiner:

JBS has 12 exporting plants; Marfrig has five, the same number as Minerva Foods, which was recently certified to export processed meat through Minerva Fine Foods.
The United States, which surpassed Chile, traditionally second in the ranking of importers, is a market that balances with its exports, at a similar race as European, Japanese, or South Korean markets and, after the trade agreement, also for China.
