Vale halts cargo transportation between Sabará and Barão dos Cocais
May, 20, 2019 Posted by datamarnewsWeek 201921
Movements on the northern slope of a pit at the Gongo Soco Mine in Barão dos Cocais (MG) have led Vale to halt cargo transportation between Sabará and Barão dos Cocais, both in the state of Minas Gerais. The route is served by the Vitória-Minas Railroad (EFVM).
The shutdown is preventive and Vale is evaluating other transportation alternatives to minimize the impact. The measure has been aligned with the National Mining Agency (ANM) and will remain in force until further analysis is carried out in the region.
According to Vale, the company is evaluating potential impacts from vibrations caused by the displacement on the Sul Superior dam located 1.5km away from the slope; Vale says the pit and dam are being monitored 24 hours a day.
