Vehicle exports down 4.6% in October but YTD numbers up 26.8%

The monthly report released on November 8 by ANFAVEA (the national association of automotive vehicle manufacturers) shows a 4.6% drop in Brazilian vehicle exports in October when compared to the same month last year. The October results show 29 shipments containing 800 vehicles.

According to the association, in the first ten months of the year, the sale of vehicles abroad registered an increase of 26.8%, corresponding to 306,800 vehicles, (a growth of 26.8%), with revenue of US$ 6.19 billion (up 45.9% compared to the same period in 2020).

In October, alone, exports of 29,800 vehicles represented an increase of 26.1% over September and a drop of 14.6% over October 2020. In the YTD, 241,900 units have already been exported, 26.8 % more than in the same period last year. It is a performance superior to the accumulated highs in production and sales of 16.7% and 9.5%, respectively. Performance in 2020 was strongly affected by the beginning of the pandemic.

According to the president of ANFAVEA, Luiz Carlos Moraes, the retraction in sales in October is a reflection of the difficulties faced by the industry, such as the lack of components, which are in global shortage. The forecast is that these problems will continue to impact the automotive sector’s activities until next year. “The semiconductor shortage challenge will continue into 2022” he added.

Luiz Carlos Moraes stated that the numbers are in line with the forecast made a month ago which showed a timid growth compared to last year – different from the expectations at the beginning of the year, which were for strong growth.
