Despite the total or partial stoppages of 11 factories during the month of August due to the semiconductor crisis, logistical efforts by automakers allowed the production of 164,000 units, exceeding the July volume by 0.3%. According to the monthly survey carried out by ANFAVEA (the national association of automobile manufacturers), there was a 21.9% drop in production compared to August 2020, when there was still no shortage of electronic components. This was the worst August result since 2003.
A positive highlight was the increase in exports and the maintenance of employment throughout the pandemic. After a retreat in July, exports reacted in August, rising 23.9% over the previous month. In all, 29,400 vehicles were shipped, 5.5% more than in August last year. The truck segment is also benefitting, despite a lack of certain inputs. The production of 15,000 units grew 1.1% over July, while sales of 13,000 units represented an increase of 8.1% over the previous month.
