The company Hidrovias do Brasil (HBSA) oversaw the arrival of a fertilizer vessel in the Port of Santos, symbolizing the company’s resumption of operations at the maritime terminal on the coast of São Paulo. A large part of the renovations and investments foreseen in the grant agreement for the STS20 port area have already been done. The remaining is estimated to be completed by October of this year.
To make the operation more efficient, the company installed two state-of-the-art hydraulic quay cranes, the first of its kind in the Port of Santos. These pieces of equipment are capable of handling around 14 thousand tonnes per day. Moreover, the company is nearly completing the construction of a new warehouse to expand fertilizer storage capacity.
Altogether, the Hidrovias do Brasil’s operation in the Port of Santos will include three warehouses with a static capacity of 190,000 tonnes, approximately 200 employees, and a computerized operating system that monitors the operational flow and tracks cargo loads.
The terminal will have a preliminary capacity of 1.5 million cargo loads annually, gradually expanding to 2.75 million. In addition, the three warehouses will have a static capacity of 140,000 tonnes for fertilizers and 50,000 tonnes for salt, allowing products to be shipped via road at 6.4kt/day and via rail at 2kt/day.
