For the first time in its history, the Port of Vila do Conde, located in Barcarena, exported sesame seeds in big bags stowed directly in the vessel’s holds. The port operation, carried out by the Atlântica Matapi Group, mobilized around 400 professionals.
In six days of operations, the “MV Western Moscow” received 20,315,656 tonnes of seeds produced by the Guatemalan Sezam Zaad, a grain agro-export company with operations in Paragominas (Pará state) and Caranana (Mato Grosso).
“We are delighted to conclude yet another historic, unprecedented operation in the region. The solutions show the port operator’s ability to meet customer demands and understand regional needs as an important export corridor,” stresses Tiago Pinto, vice-president President of the Atlântica Matapi Group.
Matapi performed the logistical services from receiving the product at one of the three terminals in Vila do Conde to delivering the cargo in the ship’s holds.
The sesame will be processed in Guatemala and sold to several other countries. Before, the cargo was exported from Santos/SP via containers. However, after a test in Porto de Paranaguá, the agro-export company chose to carry out the operation in Barcarena, ensuring more proximity to the producing areas.
“For us, the operation went well, and we are grateful to the Grupo Atlântica Matapi team. We will, without a doubt, be partners for a long time “, Sezam Zaad director José Francisco revealed.
