VLI has implemented a video analytics system for remote operation with monitoring of the tilting process at the Uberaba Rail Intermodal Terminal (TIUB) in the Triângulo Mineiro region. The initiative has brought an efficiency gain of approximately 10% in the total tilting time, optimizing grain unloading, and ensuring the safety of operators and drivers involved in the process.
The TIUB is a fundamental part of the Southeast stretch of the Centro-Atlântica Railway, one of the top routes for conveying agribusiness export products in Brazil. Currently, the terminal is responsible for grain storage and transportation, making it one of the largest and most modern cargo terminals in Latin America.
Developed throughout 2023, the initiative implemented a Road Control Center (CCR) with equipment that allows operators to remotely activate commands for locking, tilting, and unlocking trucks, integrated with safety devices for cargo unloading processes, and enabling monitoring of tipping and maneuvering areas.
According to Luciano Gonçalves Pereira, VLI’s Digital Transformation Manager for Ports and Terminals, the modernization strategy employed meets various company principles. “VLI is committed to ensuring efficiency in its processes, positioning itself as a company that pioneers change in the sector to transform logistics in Brazil,” he emphasizes.
The CCR also features an audio and visual communication system that allows interaction between operators and drivers to support the cargo dumping process. The system has two operation desks for simultaneous control of the five tippers existing at TIUB.
Since the initiative’s implementation, TIUB’s performance in terms of the number of trucks served has improved over the previous year. Another advantage of the solution was risk mitigation, as employees worked remotely in the CCR, lowering exposure in the operational area.
