VLI announced the first shipment of corn to the U.S. through the Inácio Barbosa Maritime Terminal (TMIB), located in Barra dos Coqueiros, Sergipe.
The contract provides that between June and July this year, 60,000 tonnes will be destined for the Americans.
“With the new flow, the company takes another step in consolidating TMIB as an outlet for Brazilian agribusiness. The corn shipped in Sergipe originates from the western region of the State of Bahia”, says VLI, in a statement.
In May, the company had already announced the resumption of grain shipments via Sergipe, with the shipment of 90,000 tons of soy meal abroad.
“In addition to supporting the flow of steel inputs, the terminal is also now established as a route for agriculture, meeting a growing demand from producers, especially in the northeast and midwest regions of the country,” says Italo dos Santos Leão, commercial manager of VLI for the TMIB.
In 2020 alone, 763,280 tons were handled at the site, compared to 578,710 tons in 2018, an increase of 31.8% in the period. In all, in the last five years, 3.31 million tons were shipped through the TMIB.
