On July 5th, VLI will host a delivery ceremony for the first of twelve ES-43BBI locomotives acquired from Wabtec Brasil, aimed at boosting the current fleet deployed at Centro-Atlântica Railway (FCA) under its management. The event, featuring national secretary of Railway Transport Leonardo Ribeiro and vice-governor of Minas Gerais Mateus Simões, will take place at the manufacturer’s industrial plant (Av. General David Sarnoff, 28 – Cidade Industrial) in Contagem, Minas Gerais
The locomotives, purchased with an investment of R$300 million by VLI, will cater to the increased demand for cargo transportation in the company’s Southeast corridor. This corridor facilitates the transport of grains, sugar, fertilizers, and other products between Goiás, Minas Gerais, and São Paulo. These locomotives, designed specifically for metric gauge railways and produced in Minas Gerais, boast cutting-edge technology that offers greater transport capacity and reduced fuel consumption, leading to high productivity for the trains.
With this acquisition, VLI has added 23 locomotives to its fleet in just over a year, with investments exceeding R$500 million. Earlier this year, in March, the company announced the purchase of eight new models, also manufactured in Brazil, with delivery scheduled for the end of 2025.
