VLI to operate as a Railway Cargo Transport Agent (ATF-C) in Brazil

After registering with the National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT), VLI can now operate as a Rail Freight Transport Agent (ATF-C) in Brazil. This means that the company will be able to negotiate, through specific operational contracts (COEs), with other companies to share railway sections to transport cargo, thereby broadening its scope of operations.
“As an ATF, VLI stays in line with new regulatory alternatives. Within this new model, the company will be able to access cargo and reach destinations that are not part of its own railway network,” says VLI’s Executive Director of Institutional Relations and Regulatory Affairs, Silvana Alcantara.
With the implementation of the Railway Law (Law 14,273/2021), which came into effect in February 2022, the railway scenario was changed. Among the objectives of the new legislation is the modernization of the railway market, expanding the system through new regulatory alternatives, improving it, and fostering competitiveness for services provided on Brazilian railways.
As a Rail Freight Transport Agent, the provision of the transport service occurs independently of the ownership of the railway infrastructure. Thus, VLI, seeking to bring even more value to its customers, applied to be authorized by the National Registry of Rail Freight Transport Agents (Renafer-C) to act as an ATF. The authorization was granted in a deliberative meeting of ANTT.
