Volkswagen has chosen Espírito Santo as the new entry point for its imported vehicles in Brazil. The German giant will begin unloading cars at the Port of Vitória, strengthening the state’s role as one of the country’s leading logistics hubs. The first shipment arrives this week from Mexico aboard the ship Dover Highway. “Espírito Santo only stands to gain from this,” says Vports’ CEO.
This Monday (31st) will see the unprecedented arrival of vehicles from the German brand in Espírito Santo. The first batch will consist of 32 units of the Taos model, coming from Mexico aboard the Dover Highway. These vehicles will be stored in Cariacica before being distributed to the national market.
For Gustavo Serrão, CEO of Vports, this new import flow represents a strategic advancement for the sector. “It is another important move involving a major automaker and reinforcing our vocation as a multipurpose port capable of meeting various demands with productivity and efficiency. Espírito Santo only benefits from this.”
The new import flow strengthens an optimistic scenario for the ports in Espírito Santo, which have been increasing their participation in national logistics. In 2024, Espírito Santo consolidated itself as Brazil’s largest importer of passenger vehicles, handling $3.7 billion—around R$22 billion—according to data from the Espírito Santo Export and Import Trade Union (Sindiex).
Approximately 160,000 vehicles were imported through Espírito Santo’s ports—a significant increase compared to 83,000 in all of 2023 and 57,000 in 2022.
Acting Governor Ricardo Ferraço highlighted that the state’s port activity outperformed the national average.
“Our growth was 15% in 2024, while the Brazilian average was only 1.2%. This is important because it generates more jobs, more work, and opportunities in an area where we have always had a strong vocation,” Ferraço emphasized.
