Wheat Imports Expected to Remain Strong in 2025

Research by Cepea indicates that 2025 begins with lower wheat availability in the domestic market. In the second half of 2024, a decline in production was partially offset by growing imports. Thus, according to Cepea researchers, external purchases and rising prices are expected to remain strong in the first half of 2025.

Higher wheat prices in the agricultural sector could encourage Brazilian farmers to maintain or expand their wheat acreage in the upcoming season. However, competition with other crops, including second-crop corn in several states, which has also become more attractive, must be considered, according to Cepea researchers.
