Wheat shipments from the Rosario region in Argentina fell 86% in January due to the drought that cut production in half, from 23 million tonnes to 11.5 million tonnes, according to Rosario Stock Exchange (BCR) estimates. Meanwhile, for the first week of February, there was an 81% drop in exports.
In the first two months of the 2022/23 season, 1.33 million tonnes of wheat were shipped, while exports in December and January of the last cycle totaled 5.20 million tonnes. This represents a year-on-year drop of 74% at the national level since the formal start of the market year.
As for the first week of February, shipments abroad are estimated at 84.3 thousand tonnes of wheat through the Up River terminals to Brazil, compared to 447.173 thousand tonnes in the previous year, on the same date. This represents 81% fewer shipments.
