Operations with wheeled cargo at the Port of Rio Grande reached a peak, exceeding the mark of 2,500 units between January and May 2024. During this period, the port held operations with cars, motorcycles, trailers, tractors, and other vehicles, solidifying its role as a key logistics hub for Cono Sur.
On Tuesday (25), the Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) vessel Chesapeake Highway docked at the port, bringing 549 units of the new Chevrolet Equinox, produced in Mexico. These vehicles were nationalized “in water,” allowing for quick and efficient landing, which helped reduce costs and storage time.
The arrival of these cars marks the start of second-semester sales. Rio Grande do Sul, with its extensive network of dealerships and dense road infrastructure, facilitates the distribution and sale of vehicles, boosting significant economic activity in the automotive sector.
“The Rio Grande port complex benefits from being multimodal, paving the way for various operations with wheeled cargo. We have an automotive yard with the capacity to store vehicles for both imports and exports. Its proximity to the dock area enables more efficient operations, reducing the time ships spend in the port,” said Cristiano Klinger, president of Portos RS.
